Super Sentai and Power Rangers

In 1975, Toei launched their new superhero show from the mind of Shotaro Ishinomori, creator of Kamen Rider, Cyborg 009, and Kikaider. A new team of colorful masked heroes sprung to life on the TV, in Himitsu Sentai Gorenger, or Secret Taskforce Gorenger! This was the first season of Super Sentai!

Come 1993, Sentai was unheard of in the states outside of a few brief showings on Japanese language channels in the LA Area, Hawaii, and a brief stint with Marvel’s Stan Lee. That was changed when Haim Saban came together with Margaret Loesch and brought it to the general audience, adapting the 16th Sentai series, Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger into Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, starting a new long-running series.

Each season of Sentai and PR is a new experience for the most part, and usually not connected to other seasons, barring some exceptions, especially in PR. Though a few motifs have been reused, each season is completely new and offers a unique experience!
